    ABOUT THE 2020 Neuroscience Research Showcase KEYNOTE TALK:


    Dr. Whitney A. Postman is a tenure-track Assistant Professor and Director of the Neuro-Rehabilitation of Language Laboratory in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department at Saint Louis University's Doisy College of Health Sciences. Her Neuro-Rehabilitation of Language Lab pursues two major avenues of research. The first is a campus-community partnership in The Ville neighborhood of North St. Louis, to serve low-income African American elders at risk for dementia and to address the effects of lifelong accumulation of racial health disparities in this traditionally underserved aging population. The second involves experimental investigations to recover motor-speech and linguistic capacities in cases of rare neurogenic communication disorders such as pure apraxia of speech secondary to stroke and apraxia combined with distinct types of dysarthria in cases of fronto-temporal degenerative diseases such as Primary Progressive Aphasia and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. These experimental investigations include state-of-the-art computer-based therapies, tele-medicine and applications of imaging techniques such as real-time ultrasound intra-oral visual feedback and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain.

    The Center for Neurodynamics, the UMSL community, and many scientists throughout the world continue to mourn the loss of Frank Moss. January 4, 2021 will mark the tenth anniversary of his death, and his friends and colleagues still find it difficult to wrap their minds around the idea that he is gone.

    This past year has seen several international workshops held in Frank’s honor. A special Focus Issue of the journal Chaos appeared in December 2011, dedicated to Frank, and collecting a wide range of papers in the field of complex stochastic dynamics in biology, which he helped to found.
